The essential duties are, but not limited to:

The Dispute Resolution and Litigation Support practice (DRLS) of Marshall & Stevens is a group that is dedicated to the development of economic damages theories and analyses for commercial disputes involving businesses, shareholders, and other stake holders. With a primary focus on business disputes and valuation assignments, we typically perform lost profits analyses and business valuations for privately held companies that are engaged in a dispute (pre-litigation) or civil/criminal lawsuit.  We have also performed damages analyses for cases involving personal lost profits (e.g., defamation, wrongful termination), lost wages, and intangible property (e.g., reasonable royalty).  Ultimately, our work results in expert witness testimony for judges and juries in the court room.

 REPORTS TO: Manager, Structured Finance

JOB FUNCTION:  Financial Valuation Analyst

 

SUMMARY:

 

Marshall & Stevens Incorporated is a national valuation consulting firm that values businesses and business assets for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, financing, financial accounting and federal tax reporting purposes. Our firm is seeking a part-time Structured Finance / Leasing Valuation Intern in Los Angeles.  The Structured Finance / Leasing Practice primarily values electric generation, traditional and renewable energy and manufacturing assets. The intern will be responsible for working with a team to analyze cost, market and income approaches to value to support the fair market valuation of project assets for our clients. Report writing is also required and part of the job responsibilities.

 

 INTERNSHIP LEARNING GOALS:

The Structured Finance / Leasing Valuation Intern will be trained by and assist the Manager and Associates. One can expect to gain an understanding of the valuation of energy generation assets and corporate finance.

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist team members in developing valuation models, performing analytic research, and writing reports that are submitted to our clients.
  • Collect, analyze, and correlate data for valuation analysis purposes; as well as perform ancillary analysis of economic, industry, and financial data.
  • Maintain research data, files, and databases.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • U.S. work authorization is required
  • Intermediate/advanced understanding of financial theory, business transactions, general accounting issues and federal tax issues
  • Possess analytical skills and have the willingness to learn and execute supportable analyses
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Professional presence and a self-starter
  • Relationship focused (with team members)
  • Approximately 16 – 20 hours per week

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a concentration in Finance, Accounting or Business
  • Valuation experience is a plus
  • Renewable energy industry knowledge is a plus
