Amit Payan has over fifteen years of experience serving as a trusted advisor to healthcare executives, helping them navigate increasingly complex and rapidly evolving challenges. During his career, he has provided financial and strategic advisory services across a broad spectrum of healthcare organizations.
Mr. Payan has conducted hundreds of fair market value and commercial reasonableness opinions for physician practices, independent practice associations, medical groups, hospitals, health systems, managed care organizations, law firms, and other clients across a wide spectrum of provider specialties, including but not limited hospital-based (e.g., anesthesiology), surgical and other medical specialties. Mr. Payan has helped organizations ensure that their financial arrangements comply with fair market value and commercial reasonableness requirements per Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute. His experience also includes mergers and acquisitions, valuation, and litigation support for transaction, corporate and regulatory compliance, and financial reporting purposes. His transaction experience includes successful execution of business acquisitions, formations, and consolidations across the healthcare and life sciences industries.
He has developed innovative and effective compensation and business structures, incorporating best-practice traditional and emerging payment models. Mr. Payan has also designed and implemented governance, management, operations, and financial systems that enable hospitals and providers to collaborate more effectively and achieve mutual objectives. He has also supported joint venture planning and assessed financial viability and partnership terms.
Mr. Payan has successfully executed multiple sell-side M&A deals and has also supported joint venture planning between two institutions. He has assessed financial viability and terms of various partnerships, which included evaluation of the contributions, risks, and investments of the involved entities. He has led valuations of business enterprises, clinical and administrative compensation, coverage stipends, leases, management and professional services, and joint ventures.
In one recent project, Mr. Payan performed an economic damages calculation, drafted a report summarizing his professional opinion of value and testified as an expert witness. In another recent project, Mr. Payan rendered fair market value and commercial reasonableness opinions of payments made under numerous professional services arrangements between one of the largest U.S. health systems and various provider groups, drafted expert opinion and rebuttal reports, and was deposed as an expert witness.
