Position Overview:
The Financial Business Analyst at Marshall & Stevens will play a critical role in supporting our Minnesota office’s financial analysis and business valuation efforts. This role involves collaborating closely with senior analysts and partners to analyze financial data, develop valuation models, and provide insights that drive strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the valuation of privately-held business interests, including detailed financial statement analysis, industry research, and market comparisons.
- Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings from financial analyses, valuations, and other business assessments.
- Support litigation support services by preparing property settlements, cash flow analyses, and damage calculations.
- Conduct interviews with management teams to gather relevant business and financial information.
- Develop and maintain complex financial models to project business performance and valuation outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely project completion.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- ASA, ABV, CVA, CPA, CFA, or other relevant certification preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in financial analysis, valuation, or related field.
- Strong proficiency in financial modeling and valuation methodologies.
- Excellent analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.

SUMMARY:
Marshall & Stevens Incorporated is a national valuation consulting firm that values businesses and business assets for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, financing, financial accounting and federal tax reporting purposes.
Our Chicago office has an opening for a full-time Associate in the Energy & Infrastructure Practice. The Energy & Infrastructure Practice primarily values traditional and renewable energy generation and manufacturing assets. Since 2012, Team members have valued over $60 billion of electric generation facilities with approximately $30 billion being renewable energy facilities.
The Associate will be responsible for working with a team to analyze cost, market, and income approaches to value to support the fair market valuations of project assets for our clients. Report writing is also part of the job responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist senior associates, managers and directors in developing valuation models, performing analytic research, and writing reports that are submitted to our clients.
- Collect, analyze, and correlate data for valuation analysis purposes; as well as perform ancillary analysis of economic, industry, and financial data.
- Maintain research data, files, and databases.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- U.S. work authorization is required
- Intermediate/advanced understanding of financial theory, business transactions, general accounting and federal tax issues
- Possess analytical skills and have the willingness to learn and execute supportable analyses
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Word and Excel
- Professional presence and a self-starter

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree is necessary, with a concentration in Finance, Accounting or Business

Experienced Valuation Professional, Renewable Energy Project Finance
LOCATION: NYC Office, Hybrid
SALARY RANGE: $90,000 – $200,000 plus bonuses.
Bonus Opportunities: Quarterly bonus opportunities, based upon personal and practice performance
aka – “Structured Finance”, “Energy”, “Renewables”, “Project Finance”, “Financial Valuation”
QUALIFICATIONS: Ideally, the candidate for this position has experience in the valuation and cost segregation of asset-intensive entities that are financed by tax equity investments, sale leasebacks, and inverted leases. Industry experience should include energy generation and distribution. Client relationships and sales experience is a plus.
SUMMARY: Serve in a technical role within Marshall & Stevens (“M&S”) such that a high-quality analysis and report is always being delivered to our clients. Train, manage and be a resource to fellow M&S staff. Personally represent M&S to sponsors, developers, legal and accounting professionals, and investors in such a way as to instill confidence in the analyses provided.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in a finance-related field (accounting, business, finance, or economics) or a professional designation or certification such as an ASA or CFA is a plus.
REQUIREMENTS: Legal US citizen or resident; must be permitted to work and travel in the US without the need for a sponsor. Must have excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
DUTIES: The essential duties are to perform, provide, and support valuation and cost segregation analyses for the financing of renewable energy generation and energy storage projects.
For assignments when serving as project manager,
- Lead the performance of valuation services, including client interaction, valuation analyses and preparation of deliverables while meeting internal and client deadlines.
- Be prepared to support valuation analyses and deliverables against inquiry from developers, investors and lenders, accounting, legal and tax advisors, and others as may be required.
- Assist in training and monitoring of fellow staff on appropriate valuation methods, techniques, theories, and standards.
- Represent M&S in meetings as well as on calls and in correspondence with clients, potential clients, transactions advisors and other potential or current referral sources
- Participate in backlog sessions and other calls and meetings as required.
- Be a part of the greater M&S office to which the professional is assigned and the national M&S efforts to provide excellent valuation consulting services to our clients.
- Other duties as assigned by M&S management.
